Annual water conference scheduled

Cindy Messer, lead deputy director of the California Department of Water Resources, will deliver the keynote address at next month’s Southern California Water Conference.

Messer will discuss developing a water strategy that will promote statewide housing development, according to the San Bernardino County Chapter of the Building Industry Association of Southern California, the event’s host.

The annual conference is scheduled to be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Doubletree Hotel, 222 N. Vineyard Ave. in Ontario. Networking and a continental breakfast will start at 7 a.m.

Messer’s remarks will be preceded by three panel discussions: “Housing, Wildfires, and the Future of Safer Communities,” “Emergency Preparedness in a Changing Climate,” and “Building Resilient Water Systems.”

Sponsors include Ontario, San Bernardino County, the Chino Basin Water Conservation District, the Yucaipa Valley Water District and the Southern California Water Coalition.

Some sponsorships are still available. Individual tickets are $125 each.
